EMOKE : EK GATHA

English Teacher

Evolution of Indian Judiciary
Judicial institutions evolved in India in the context of India’s social, economic and political conditions and because of the reception of legal concepts and institutions known to English and Scottish judges, lawyers and administrators. Modern Indian judiciary bears the hallmarks of its genesis and evolution during the British rule but it has progressively gone for beyond the colonial confines after the republican Constitution came into force. The theme of fundamental Rights and the role of the Supreme Court and the High Courts as vigilant custodians of fundamental rights are at the heart of India’s constitutional democracy. We owe a deep debt of gratitude to our apex judicature, the higher judiciary and the country’s bar in the evolution of the common law of the Constitution. It constitutes by common consent a remarkable chapter in our national life.
The Constitution of India is not the last word in human wisdom, but it was certainly a glorious achievement of national consensus and national commitment. The higher Indian judiciary can be said to have broadly fulfilled its constitutional ethos. There have been aberrations, notably during the Emergency and in some cases, of overstating and unduly enlarging the scope of judicial power. More seriously, there are grave and growing problems of inefficient case management, arrears, delays, corruption and incompetence. Those issues have to be addressed urgently, effectively and comprehensively if the Indian judiciary is to emerge as a fit instrument for Rule of Law for the teeming millions in the largest democracy in the world and if the Indian judiciary is to flourish in the twenty-first century holding its head high as an institution of freedom, liberty and balance, with a commitment to the constitutional goals and aspirations of We the People of India.SKU: n/a -

SKU: n/a -

Flight of Deities and Rebirth of Temples – Episodes from Indian History
Flight of Deities and Rebirth of Temples – Episodes from Indian History
This work examines the medieval response to temple destruction and image desecration. While temples were destroyed on a considerable scale, also noteworthy were the repeated endeavours to reconstruct them. In each instance of rebirth, the temple retained its original name, even though there was a visible downsizing in its scale and grandeur. The Keshava temple at Mathura, the Vishwanath temple at Kashi, the Somnath temple in Saurashtra, the Rama mandir at Ayodhya were among the shrines continually restored, well after Hindus had lost all semblance of political power. The Bindu Madhava, the most important Vishnu temple in Varanasi, was demolished in 1669 and a mosque constructed in its place. The temple now bearing the name Bindu Madhava is a modest structure in the shadow of the mosque, but continues the traditions associated with the site. Intriguingly, mosques built on temple sites often retained the sacred names – Bijamandal mosque, Lat masjid, Atala masjid, Gyanvapi mosque, and not to forget, masjid-i- janamsthan.
Equally worthy of study was the fate of images enshrined in temples. Many were swiftly removed by anxious devotees, many more were hurriedly buried; some remained on the move for decades, till such time they could be escorted back to their abodes. In several cases, images were damaged in flight. Countless images were lost, as their places of burial were forgotten over time. That necessitated the consecration of new images in more peaceable circumstances. So there were temples of the tenth-eleventh centuries, which housed images instated in the sixteenth. In situations where neither temple nor image could be safeguarded, the memory endured, and a shrine was recreated after an interval of several centuries.

Freedom of Expression
(True narrative)Freedom of Expression
Over the past few years, many of Freedom House’s publications, including Freedom in the World, Freedom of the Press and Freedom on the Net: A Global Assessment of Internet and Digital Media, have pointed to worrisome declines in freedom of expression in countries around the world. According to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, freedom of expression is the right of every individual to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers. In practice, however, this fundamental human right is frequently restricted through tactics that include censorship, restrictive press legislation, and harassment of journalists, bloggers and others who voice their opinions, as well as crackdowns on religious minorities and other suppression of religious freedom. In response to the growing problem, Freedom House is engaging in a multi-faceted Freedom of Expression Campaign to defend this critical right.

FROM EAST PAKISTAN TO BANGLADESH: RECOLLECTIONS OF 1971 LIBERATION WAR
-10%English Books, Vitasta Publishing, इतिहासFROM EAST PAKISTAN TO BANGLADESH: RECOLLECTIONS OF 1971 LIBERATION WAR
Whereas India and West Pakistan won their freedom from the British in 1947, East Pakistan got new colonial masters. So the story has to begin, as has been done in this book for the first time, from the personalities who created Pakistan, the military coups and assassinations that led to political instability, the ruling cliques that jostled for power and pelf, and the misdeeds which created fault-lines between the two wings of Pakistan. This was the backdrop to the genocide carried out by Pakistan’s army, which initially led to the resistance of East Pakistani troops and eventually necessitated India’s training and equipping of Mukti Bahini and joint operations with India’s armed forces. At the same time, dramatic events were also taking place on the world stage, in New York at the UN, in Washington, Dhaka and Islamabad which make for riveting reading. These developments had repercussions on international relations that were felt for decades, such as the unnatural axis between Washington, Beijing and Islamabad and the enduring ties between India and Bangladesh. Brig R P Singh, who was then a Captain in the Indian Army, was associated with the Bangladesh liberation struggle from start to the end. The book is a valuable addition to the literature on geopolitics as well as the subcontinent’s military history. The author provides an insightful, first-hand account of the challenges faced by the war-torn newly independent nation.

From Purdah To The People – Memoirs Of Padma Shri Rani Laxmi Kumari Chundawat : “A Woman! A Rajput Rani! A Congress Ticket!” The startling news that Rani Laxmi Kumari Chundawat would contest for a seat in Rajasthan’s Legislative Assembly spread throughout the state. It was shocking that a Rajput rani was giving up purdah to the campaign, and even more astonishing that she was allied with the Congress, the party that had seized their lands and taken away their way of life. In this book, a remarkable woman who is also a gifted storyteller recounts the reminiscences of her adventurous life. Born in the feudal era, she never went to school, was married at seventeen, went to live with her husband in the Rajasthan desert, and had six children. She gives a vivid portrait of the now-vanished feudal world of her childhood and its transformation after independence.

FROM SEX TO SUPERCONSCIOUSNESS
About From Sex to Superconsciousness
This small, infamous volume has been a bestseller for decades. Why? – because sex is our basic life energy, and transformation our longing.Osho approaches the whole subject of sex humanly, humorously and scientifically. No one is born an expert on love and sex; one of life’s joys is to discover its sacredness, simplicity and naturalness. And once we bring understanding and harmony to sex, a door to superconsciousness opens.
“What is needed is an understanding, not a suppression. The deeper the understanding, the higher human beings rise. The less the understanding, the more human beings try to suppress. There are never any successful and healthy results out of suppression. Sex is the greatest energy in human life. But one has not to stop at it. Sex has to be transmuted into superconsciousness.”
