However, fate had other plans. Just two days before their wedding, Vikrant was called away on a mission. He had to leave Pranali behind, with their love story left incomplete. The pain of separation was immense, and Pranali struggled to cope with the loneliness and the uncertainty of not knowing when Vikrant would return.
Despite the challenges, Pranali held onto the hope that one day Vikrant would come back to her. She remained steadfast in her love for him, praying for his safe return and dreaming of the day when they could finally be united and together again. It was not only fatiguing, unbearable and futile to us all, it was equally or more excruciating to them as to me. And it is only that you may know it and feel the fatigue, the disgust and the pain of it as we have felt it, that I have chosen to write it for you.

निष्कपट भाव से ईश्वर की खोज को ‘भक्तियोग’ कहते हैं। इस खोज का आरंभ, मध्य और अंत प्रेम में होता है। ईश्वर के प्रति एक क्षण की भी प्रेमोन्मत्तता हमारे लिए शाश्वत मुक्ति को देनेवाली होती है। ‘भक्तिसूत्र’ में नारदजी कहते हैं, ‘‘भगवान्् के प्रति उत्कट प्रेम ही भक्ति है। जब मनुष्य इसे प्राप्त कर लेता है, तो सभी उसके प्रेमपात्र बन जाते हैं। वह किसी से घृणा नहीं करता; वह सदा के लिए संतुष्ट हो जाता है। इस प्रेम से किसी काम्य वस्तु की प्राप्ति नहीं हो सकती, क्योंकि जब तक सांसारिक वासनाएँ घर किए रहती हैं, तब तक इस प्रेम का उदय ही नहीं होता। भक्ति कर्म से श्रेष्ठ है और ज्ञान तथा योग से भी उच्च है, क्योंकि इन सबका एक न एक लक्ष्य है ही, पर भक्ति स्वयं ही साध्य और साधन-स्वरूप है।’’

मैं चाहता हूँ कि मेरे लेखों को कोई प्रमाणभूत न समझे। यही मेरी विनती है। मैं तो सिर्फ यह चाहता हूँ कि उनमें बताए गए प्रयोगों को दृष्टांत रूप मानकर सब अपने-अपने प्रयोग यथाशक्ति और यथामति करें। मुझे विश्वास है कि इस संकुचित क्षेत्र में आत्मकथा के मेरे लेखों से बहुत कुछ मिल सकेगा; क्योंकि कहने योग्य एक भी बात मैं छिपाऊँगा नहीं। मुझे आशा है कि मैं अपने दोषों का खयाल पाठकों को पूरी तरह दे सकूँगा। मुझे सत्य के शास्त्रीय प्रयोगों का वर्णन करना है। मैं कितना भला हूँ, इसका वर्णन करने की मेरी तनिक भी इच्छा नहीं है। जिस गज से स्वयं मैं अपने को मापना चाहता हूँ और जिसका उपयोग हम सबको अपने-अपने विषय में करना चाहिए।
