Sardar Patel: The Supreme Architrect In Unification of India (Volume 1)
Garuda Prakashan, Literature & Fiction, राजनीति, पत्रकारिता और समाजशास्त्रSardar Patel: The Supreme Architrect In Unification of India (Volume 1)
India’s independence from the British on August 15, 1947, was preceded by its partition on religious lines having a murky history of dangerous antics and shenanigans of the likes of Muslim League, Jinnah and others; supported, either by accident or design, by Congress and its leadership. That Nehru failed miserably to control the situation, in which there was bloodshed, communal hatred, brutalization of women and loss of India’s territory, is a well-known story. The question is what would have been the status of India’s political borders had, say, Nehru been in charge of ‘unifying’ India – that is bringing together more than 500 princely states within the Indian union? We could well have been left to wishful thinking – “Had Sardar been the in-charge of the department handling unification of princely states within the Indian union”. This book, a well-researched document, takes the reader step-by-step on how Sardar went after the task; and how diligently he completed them. Of course, the story of Hyderabad and Junagarh is slightly more well-known. But do you know how Chhattisgarh and Orissa (now Odisha), or even Lunavada (in Gujarat), Deccan States and so many others were included in the Indian union? Do we today ever realise that these states were ‘not part of independent India’? That is why we say it is not only a book for history enthusiasts but all students, who ought to know the real political map of our country when it became independent.

How many of us really know how the issues related to North-Eastern states were handled? Or, for that matter, what was Privy Purse for the princely states? Why Sardar was worried that they were attempts not to grant them Constitutional status (Indira Gandhi got it abolished in the early 1970s)? Further, this book sheds special light on how the Hyderabad episode was handled. Coming from a former Judge, also the author of “Nehru’s Himalayan Blunders”, the book provides to-the-point arguments based on official documents, a large number of which have been quoted verbatim. For those who wanted to know anything about the humongous effort of Sardar in unifying India, be it a student or a researcher or just anyone wanting to more about one’s own country, this book is a real eye-opener. We all know that India has existed thousands and thousands of years before 1947. But, had Sardar been the king of yesteryears, he could well have been known as the ‘chakravartin’, who brought entire India under one umbrella – that is the Indian union. Read this book know how he achieved that feat – democratically.

‘Goyal was not merely witness to history but an active participant in its making.’ —Arun Jaitley During the nearly seventy-two years since Independence, India has deviated from democratic life only once—during the twenty-one months of Indira Gandhi’s Emergency. Saving India from Indira describes the events leading up to, and during the darkest days of, democratic India, as they actually unfolded. Recounted by J.P. Goyal, a key lawyer for Raj Narain in the famous election case against Mrs Gandhi that led to the imposition of the so-called National Emergency on 25 June 1975 at the behest of then prime minister Indira Gandhi, this no-holdsbarred account of a crucial insider describes the twists and turns in this case in the Allahabad High Court and the Supreme Court of India. It gives a blow-by-blow account of the battle that Goyal, along with a battery of lawyers, waged in the Supreme Court to defend the Constitution of India against the amendments that could alter its basic structure. This gripping narrative includes an account of Goyal’s meetings with political leaders in jail, including Jayaprakash Narayan and Raj Narain, and reveals many hitherto unknown facts that Goyal was privy to. Saving India from Indira is a sharp memoir of one of those few who fought against the misdeeds of the dark era and recorded events for posterity.

India’s leaders – both political and intellectual have usually failed to anticipate the shape of things to come, and a society which refuses to learn from the past can not escape disaster. The victims of religio-ethnic cleansing from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan have been seeking shelter in India for decades.
Originally, they belong to India. They are victims of history and for no fault of theirs. The state policies of these three countries from where the persecuted people flee to India have been brought under the scanner as never before. India’s troubled past over the millennium and religious demography provide the backdrop. Unfortunately, independent India’s ruling class ensured that its polity, educational system and the conduct of foreign affairs usually kept the world largely apathetic and insensitive to this tragedy for purely political considerations. Based on irrefutable evidence, hereis an analysis of all those historical forces, explaining the imperative necessity of the CAA 2019, which offers a solution as never before to our refugee problem.

The Girl from Kathua (HB)

On January 10, 2018, a little girl allegedly disappeared in Kathua district of Jammu province. Even before her body was recovered a week later, a sinister narrative was launched alleging that the girl was abducted, gang raped and killed by ‘RSS-minded’ Hindus in a Hindu temple. Talib Hussain, a PDP-Hurriyat activist with criminal antecedents led the campaign, in which Patwari Sanji Ram was declared as the ‘mastermind’.
Mehbooba Mufti, the then CM of J&K, deftly used this opportunity to arbitrarily arrest hundreds of young Hindus of Kathua district. Amid unprecedented protests by the Bar Association, several BJP leaders as well as leading citizens of Jammu, cutting across party lines, begged the PMO for a CBI investigation. But the demand was snubbed, and the fake narrative allowed to run amok.
Madhu Purnima Kishwar personally investigated the case over three years. With meticulously video-recorded interviews, extensive analysis of legal documents, financial transactions, and social media posts, she exposes how the Mufti government astutely used the mainstream media, foreign-funded NGOs and puppet academics to get the police and the judiciary to legally persecute innocent Hindus to further their subversive agenda of Land & Demographic Jihad in Jammu province.
Shockingly, leading journalists and ‘public intellectuals’ ignored even the post-mortem, which does not support rape charge to globally vilify Jammu Hindus and the Modi government. This book effectively blasts the fake narrative and exposes the masterminds behind it.

A study of Hindu-Muslim relations since the foundation of the Indian National Congress in 1885 tells us that Muslims have been making demands – ideological, political, territorial – and Hindus conceding them all along. Yet the Muslim problem remains with us in as acute a form as ever. With the advent of petro-dollars and the emergence of V.P. Singh, Laloo Prasad, Mulayam Singh and Kanshi Ram On the political scene, Muslims have become as aggressive and intransigent as in the pre-Partition period. It has become a habit with Hindu leaders to take Hindus for granted and bargain with Muslims on the latter’s terms. Leaders of the Indian National Congress have taken Hindus for granted from 1885 till today. Now leaders of the Sangh Parivar look like following the same path. Hindus have to decide as to how long they are going to be taken for granted. ‘Contrary to certain impressions created in the media,’ observes Koenraad Elst, ‘the BJS-BJP and RSS leaders have a heartfelt desire to woo the Muslims. The present official position of the RSS (and a fortiori of the BJP) is, more than ever, that Islam itself is quite alright, only fundamentalism is wrong. Even the well-known secularist theory that the Hindu-Muslim conflict was merely a concoction of the wily British colonizers is often repeated in RSS publications, sometimes with the addition that Congress and other secularist parties have now assumed the divisive role which the British once played. In every case, the role of the intrinsic hostility which Islam itself preaches and practices against ‘idolatry’ is down-played or kept out of the picture.’ ‘It is hard to conceive of a situation,’ he continues, ‘where a society is vexed and tortured by a persistent enemy, then generates a millions-strong organization pledged to the defense of this society, and yet this organization, this boastful ‘vanguard’, fails to produce even the most sketchy analysis of the motives and methods of this enemy. Only Hindus could fare this badly. Fifty years after the Partition, twenty-six years after the East Bengal genocide, there are still Hindus singing mendacious refrains like Ram Rahim Ek Hai and ‘equal truth of all Religions, because their supposed leaders have never bothered to inform them. A large part of the reason is to be found in specific choices made by the Sangh leadership, most of all choose to seek secular respectability by means of appeasement policies including flattery of Mohammed and Islam’ (Bharatiya Janata Party vis-a-vis Hindu Resurgence). This compilation shows that in its flurry for forming a government at the Centre, the Sangh leadership has fallen back on policies pursued by the Indian National Congress under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi who harbored a lifelong illusion that he could move the Muslim Indians into the national mainstream by flattering Islam. The Mahatma ended by becoming the Father of Pakistan, and a shahid in the service of his mindless slogan – sarva-dharma-samabhava. We wonder where the Sangh leadership will land whatever has survived of Hindu society and culture in a shrunken and shrinking Hindu homeland. Hindu intelligentsia has to come forward and stop it from taking the Hindu masses for another ride.

The nullification of Article 370 and enactment of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), 2019, had been landmark legislative actions in 2019. Author Sanjay Dixit delves deep into the past and traces the events, actions and their repercussions that finally led to the Union of India introducing these two measures. He looks at these events from all perspectives-historical, social and political. For Article 370, he traces the entire history of Kashmir from its pre-Islamic past and to the events that unfolded at the time of the Partition of India, leading to the initial inclusion of Article 370 in the Constitution of India. Dixit also studies in detail the legal and constitutional labyrinths, discussing the various Presidential Orders and case laws from the Constitutional Bench jurisdiction of the Supreme Court. For CAA, Dixit traces the constitutional history of India from the time of the partition of Bengal in 1905 to the unfortunate events of the Partition in 1947. His study relies heavily on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s analysis of the reasons for the Partition and the theology of a ‘separate nation’ that prevailed during the period. The author contends that this same theology has been staging a comeback now in the form of mazhabi pehchan which forms the crux of the anti-CAA protests. The informed position of the author, his lucidity of language and directness of approach lend clarity to his arguments and make this an accessible and important read.

Urban Naxals
Who are Urban Naxals or Urban Naxalites?
Urban Naxals are educated people in academia, media, NGOs and urban civil society in India who support violent insurrection against the State. They are often motivated by a violent-Left ideology and seek to achieve their objectives via coordinated violence rather than by democratic means. While the Naxalite movement is often associated with remote tribal areas, Urban Naxalism is a phenomenon in cities and urban centers. Urban Naxals act to amplify and normalize the violent Naxal movements such as the “People’s War Group”, names among the top ten terror groups in the world, and act as recruiters, propagandists and sources of funds. Naxalism is named as the leading internal security threat to India.
