Muslim Slave System in Medieval India
Slavery originated during the age of savagery and continued into ancient civilizations. Slavery was there in Babylon and elsewhere in Mesopotamia; it was widely prevalent in ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome, centuries before the coming of Christ. Ancient India also had slaves but they were so mildly treated that foreign visitors like Megasthenes, who were acquainted with their fate in other countries, failed to notice the existence of slavery in this country.
An altogether new dimension-religious sanction-was added to the institution of slavery with the rise of Christianity to power in the Roman Empire. Hitherto, slavery had been a creation of the crude in human nature the urge to dominate over others, to make use of others for private comfort and profit. Now it was ordained that the God of the Christians had bestowed the whole earth and all its wealth on the believers, that the infidels had no natural or human rights, and that the believers could do to the infidels whatever they chose-kill them, plunder them, reduce them to the status of slaves or non-citizens. In short, slavery became a divinely ordained institution.
With the advent of Islam, slavery became inalienable with religion and culture and was accorded a permanent place in society. It goes to the credit of Islam to create slave trade on a large scale, and run it for profit like any other business. Prophet Muhammad had not only accepted the prevailing Arab practice of making slaves but also set a precedent when he sold some Jewish women and children of Medina in exchange for horses and arms. War was prescribed on religious grounds, and became an integral part of Islam. The Quran expressly permitted the Muslims to acquire slaves through conquest.
From the day India became a target of Muslim invaders its people began to be enslaved in droves to be sold in foreign lands or employed in various capacities on menial and not-so-menial jobs within the country. Indeed, from the days of Muhammad bin Qasim in the eighth century to those of Ahmad Shah Abdali in the eighteenth, enslavement, distribution, and sale of Hindu prisoners was systematically practised by Muslim invaders and rulers of India.
Right from the fifteenth century Muslims would go on furnishing black slaves to European slave traders. At least 80Ck of all the black slaves that were ever exported from Black Africa, went through Muslim hands. A large part of the slaves transported to America had also been bought from Muslim slave – catchers.
The present study by Professor K.S. Lal documents for the first time the Muslim slave system as it obtained in medieval India under Muslim rule.

According to Yaska- An innovative thing irrespective of being its old is called Purana. Besides the eighteen Maha-Puranas, there are another set of the Purans known as upa-Puranas, which are more sectarian in nature. They are comparatively later in date having as well some historical background.
Nrsimha Purana occupies an important place among the upa-Purans and like other Puranas, this is also considered to be compiled by Vyasa. On the contrary, every Purana dwells at length on one or more particular subjects and in some, five primary topics-(1) Primary creation or cosmogony (2) Secondary creation (3) genealogy of gods and patriarchs (4) reigns of the Manus (5) history of the solar and lunar dynasties. Nrsimha Purana also depicts these five topics, viz. It contains various episode of the incarnation of Lord Visnu; especially incarnation of Lord Rama. There are sixty-five chapters, which describe all topics related with Purana. It describes the story of Rishi Markandeya’s victory over death and Yamagita. The form of devotion, definition of a true devotee and the character of devotees like Dhruva’s has been described in this Puran. Despite of it being small it is pregnant with meaning.

I started my autobiography Apprenticed to a Himalayan Master with the words ‘Let the journey begin’. The last chap¬ter was titled ‘The journey continues’. So, completing the autobiography was not the end of the journey and now we begin another journey together into new vistas. A unique and, in many instances, an unbelievably strange journey. You may dismiss it as fiction or due to my unusually fertile imagination or just plain lies or conclude that I have finally gone bonkers. Be that as it may, if you find the jour¬ney interesting and contributing in some way to opening up your mind to newer ways of perception or even bringing up a thought like ‘yeah, perhaps there are more unknown vistas to which consciousness can expand than the so-called rational brain can think of’, I have done my job. Bear in mind friends, that the truth is sometimes stranger than fiction and some yogis have even called the solid world we swear by an illusion, a construct of the mind. There is no strict chronological order though. Each chapter is complete by itself and can be read independently. So dear reader, Sangacchadvam – Let’s walk together once more. Sri M

Partitioned Freedom Hardcover
At the stroke of the midnight on 14-15 August 1947, India secured independence. That moment also witnessed the tragic partition of India and birth of Pakistan. Nobody wanted it. Yet it couldn’t be averted.
Four decades earlier, in 1905, Bengal was partitioned by the British. A massive movement, called Vande Mataram Movement, was launched against it by the Indian National Congress. British were forced to annul partition of Bengal in 1911.
A country that defeated the British designs to partition one province failed when the whole country was being partitioned four decades later. Why? What missteps had led to the disaster? Who were responsible?
‘Partitioned Freedom’ explores answers to these questions.

Pratirodh: The Resistance
“Cast in the backdrop of the Mughal era during the reigns of Aurangzeb and his successors, Pratirodh is a saga of the relentless resistance by a few brave men against a seemingly invincible Empire to protect their honour and way of life. In response to the rather partisan policies of Mughal emperors, a number of personalities came forward in different parts of Hindustan, to lead people in resisting the tyranny.
Though the geographical dispersion precluded any visible unified approach, they were indirectly benefitted by each other. When Aurangzeb got cowed down in Rajputana against the unified resistance of Marwar and Mewar, it provided much needed succour to the great Shivaji and Guru Govind Singh to regroup and consolidate forces in their respective areas. The credit for tying down the Mughals for the longest period in history goes to the Marathas; this also acted as a lifeline to the Sikhs, Rajputs, Bundelas and Jats. Rajputs and Sikhs repaid their debt to Marathas by keeping the Mughals, post Aurangzeb, completely embroiled in Punjab and Rajputana, and indirectly paving the way for an almost unchallenged rise of the Marathas.
The prolonged resistance witnessed the supreme sacrifices of numerous unsung heroes of medieval history. Through unmatched grit and determination, they succeeded in bringing down the mighty Empire to its knees, eventually leading to its demise.

Prithviraj Chauhan and His Times
-15%English Books, Rajasthani Granthagar, इतिहास, जीवनी/आत्मकथा/संस्मरणPrithviraj Chauhan and His Times
Prithviraj Chauhan and His Times : My aim in writing this book is to study the struggle of Prithviraj Chauhan III against the Turks and to highlight the cultural activities of that period. The scholars stress exclusively on the chronicles of the Muslim-Court annalists who familiarized us with the invader’s version of conquest. The heroic resistance offered by the Chauhan rulers and other Rajputs residing on the border areas has not so far been studied in correct perspective. The Goverdhan and other memorial inscriptions are very important. These were engraved in order to commemorate the heroic deeds of those brave persons, who gave away their lives while fighting against the invaders in order to rescue “cows women and religious shrines”. good number of such inscriptions are still available on the border areas of Rajasthan. I have utilised some of these inscriptions for the first time.

RABINDRANATH TAGORE AMONG SAINTS
-10%English Books, Vitasta Publishing, इतिहास, जीवनी/आत्मकथा/संस्मरणRABINDRANATH TAGORE AMONG SAINTS
In the eyes of the world, Rabindranath Tagore is celebrated as the illustrious bard of Bengal, a name that resonates globally. His literary works and philosophy have touched the hearts of generations, leaving an enduring legacy. Yet, hidden behind the timeless verses and laurels lies a lesser-known truth. Throughout his life, Tagore sought the company of saints, a quest that profoundly enriched his spirit. These personal encounters with India’s spiritual luminaries, however, remained concealed in silence, unspoken and unwritten. It was Bipul Kumar Gangopadhyay, a renowned figure in India’s spiritual and literary realms, whose determination and relentless research culminated in Sadhu Sannidhey Rabindranath, a Bengali masterpiece that reveals Tagore’s intimate experiences with nineteen sages. Rabindranath Tagore Among Saints is the first-ever English translation of these sacred encounters. This book illuminates the profound spirituality that shaped the sage poet’s journey, offering readers a fresh perspective on the man revered as Gurudev by Mahatma Gandhi. It invites you on a spiritual pilgrimage to the inner sanctum of a literary giant’s soul.

Rahu and Ketu in Predictive Astrology: North and South Nodes of the Moon (PB)
-15%English Books, Prabhat Prakashan, Religious & Spiritual LiteratureRahu and Ketu in Predictive Astrology: North and South Nodes of the Moon (PB)
It is a well-established fact that since Vedic astrology has its basis in Vedic knowledge, it is as old as human creation and has been used from time immemorial to dispel the unfounded horrors and prejudices of the human mind. Rahu and Ketu, the two nodal points of the Moon, constitute the core of Vedic astrology. Ancient Indian seers visualised the north and the south nodes of the Moon as the most interesting and mysterious planetary influences. However, Rahu and Ketu have either been ignored or misunderstood in studies of Vedic astrology.
This book is an attempt to dispel the darkness that surrounds Rahu and Ketu so that they can be better understood and their importance in Vedic astrology appreciated. By no means the final word on Rahu and Ketu, this book attempts to provide readers with a practical understanding of these two nodes so that they can be placed in perspective. The book also provides other insights into Vedic astrology. The use of horoscopes of some prominent persons makes an understanding of Rahu and Ketu easier both for astrology enthusiasts and for other readers.

Rajasthan Through The Ages (Vol. 1)
Rajasthan Through The Ages (Vol. 1) : The history of a people is not merely a chronological arrangement of events and incidents. An analysis of development of society and its culture is essential to the understanding of history.
We have heard and read the daring account of great warriors and patriots like Rana Sanga and Rana Pratap. The touch of divine magic in the works of Rajasthan sculptors and painters has held us spell-bound. Behind all this, one can perceive the character and culture which has a unity of its own. The delineation of this characteristic unity in the development, through various well-defined historical periods, of culture of a society is the most valuable and essential aid to the understanding of its history. The present volume has successfully attempted this task.
Eminent scholars who worked on the Advisory Board and the Board of Editors have made commendable contributions to the preparation of this memorable document of authentic history of Rajasthan.

RAMA AND AYODHYA
This work briefly examines the antiquity of the Rama Katha and spread of the Rama cult over the Indian subcontinent in the context of claims of Left academics on its late popularity. Its main focus is the conflict at Ayodhya over the Ramjanmabhumi temple allegedly destroyed by the Mughal Emperor, Babar, in 1528. It examines the accounts of foreign travellers in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, and British administrator-scholars in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, which testify to Ayodhya?s continuing importance as a pilgrimage centre associated with Rama?s birthplace. The extended litigation over the Ramjanmabhumi/Babri Masjid in colonial times further attests to the persistence of the claims to the Janmabhumi. From the late 1980s, Left historians have been in the forefront of the campaign against the Rama temple. They have argued that Rama worship was an eighteenth-nineteenth century phenomenon and the present-day Ayodhya acquired its standing and identity only in the fifth century AD, during the rule of the imperial Guptas. According to Left academics, the identification of the Ramjanmabhumi in Ayodhya was ?a matter of faith, not of historical evidence?. They also rejected any possibility of the Babri Masjid being built on the site of the Janmabhumi temple. Excavations by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) proved the inaccuracy of these assertions. And finally, the judgement of the Allahabad High Court (Lucknow Bench) marked a decisive moment in the dispute over the Janmabhumi. The writings of Left academics, the findings of the ASI, the extended arguments in the Allahabad High Court and its eventual verdict form the subject of this study.

Ramayan Retold With Scientific Evidences
The book narrates the biography of Lord Ram with exact dates of important events, depicting corresponding sky views and weaving other supporting scientific evidences into the story told by Maharshi Valmiki. It moves Ramayan from the domain of mythology to the realm of History.
The book provides credible and scientific answers to the questions —whether Shri Ram was actually born? Whether he had actually travelled from Ayodhya to Lanka to save millions of noble people from the atrocities of ignoble? Whether he had really set the example of an ideal welfare state?
Methodology adopted is path breaking and futuristic! All astronomical references were extracted sequentially from Ramayan. The corresponding skyviews were generated using Plane-tarium & Stellarium softwares. Readers can enjoy watching how the sky looked bright with five planets in their exalted positions when Shri Ram was born.
Evidences from archaeology & archaeobotany, geology & oceanography, remote sensing & genetic studies have also been beautifully woven into the story to support this astronomical date sequence. Beautiful pictures of Setu, Sea Level Curve and of many excavated articles mentioned in Ramayan have been made a part of the book.SKU: n/a -

RAMAYANA A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF RAMAKATHAS
-10%English Books, Vitasta Publishing, इतिहास, रामायण/रामकथाRAMAYANA A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF RAMAKATHAS
The story of Rama has been a part of our lives for ever and will probably continue to be so…. But most of us are unaware that the story has as many variations as there are versions. In the author’s own words Valmiki’s Ramayana has taken several ‘incarnations’ due to the efforts of many great writers who wanted to bring the story to their own people in their own language. In his book, Professor AA Manavalan, an eminent scholar in the field of comparative literature, has painstakingly made an intensive and analytical study of the Rama story in 48 languages including the folk tradition. Professor Manavalan’s main focus is on how the receiving language’s rendering could make a greater impact than the original in the popular imagination of the people. Ramayana – A Comparative Study of Ramakathas, an English rendition of Ramakaathaiyum Ramayanangalum, presented by CT Indra and Prema Jagannathan, captures the thematic purpose of Prof AA Manavalan’s Tamil original and creates a forum ‘to discuss whether Ramayana is an ethical text or an ideological text’.
